Digital Media Lab

The Digital Media Lab provides multimedia production support, instructional technology professional development, and NASA educational content generation and delivery. The DML is comprised of a dual-purpose television / videoconferencing studio, PC/Mac computer lab, and a multipurpose classroom. Staffing for the facility includes a general manager, operations manager, three instructional designers, and a television systems engineer. 

The Digital Media Lab supports the NASA Explorer Schools Program and the NASA Educator Astronaut Program.  The DML is one of three NASA Digital Learning Network Hub sites that provide guidance and leadership in the area of distance learning for all of NASA’s Education offices located at the10 NASA field centers.  The other Hub sites are located at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH, and NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.

 

NASA Digital Learning Network

  • Description: Consolidated infrastructure comprised of NASA education offices equipped with distance learning systems
  • Purpose:Reach NASA Explorer Schools and others with appropriate, standards-based interactive lessons

NASA Explorer Schools Professional Development

  • Description: Training of NASA Personnel and NES educators in the use and integration of instructional technologies - videoconferencing, television production, handheld computers, image analysis

Using Handheld Computers in the Classroom

  • Description: Research and Development of handheld computer applications for teaching science, mathematics, technology, and geography in K-12 classrooms
  • Purpose: Introduce Explorer School educators and students to new technolog

NASA North Dakota Connection

  • Description: Cooperative Agreement with Turtle Mountain Community College on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in North Dakota
  • Purpose: Delivery of NASA educational content to tribal schools via distance learning technologies

NASA National Guard Distance Learning Initiative

  • Description: NASA content delivered through National Guard facilities for school and community groups.
  • Purpose: Use National Guard infrastructure to reach underserved populations.

Creative Media Services for Educator Astronaut Program

  • Description: Music videos, production assistance, presentations for Educator Astronaut Program development purposes
